Review by an Anonymous Teen - Wings of Fire
I’ve had a few eras in my life, and while Wings of Fire was one of the shorter ones, it was still quite an age in my life to remember. It all started in around second grade when my mom bought me a box set of the first five books. I started to read them, but I deemed them not very good and I put them back on my shelf.
And that’s where they stayed for the next three years, until one day in early fifth grade I decided I was going to read them, even if I was only reading them so I could get rid of them. Let’s just say I did not have very high hopes for those books. I never would expect it to spark another obsession in my life. But after tearing through the first book in a day, I quickly finished all five, shocked at how much I liked them. Instead of getting rid of them I asked for the next five and read those too. I then got the next three that were published and read all the standalones.
From there sparked different sections of the obsession. My favorite book of the series was the standalone called Darkstalker. I read that book so many times, wow. I then made several drawings, playlists, and… really cringe stories (which have been deleted) dedicated to Darkstalker. Feeling satisfied with myself I decided to draw MORE drawings, this time of the whole series and not just that one book. I even made a song.
But there was also another era that I was in, that went along with this one: Minecraft. I had a friend who I would play Minecraft with for hours, and one time we were talking about stuff and I found out that she loved Wings of Fire too. Which started the Wings of Fire themed Minecraft worlds that I built with her. We built the IceWing castle, and a DarkStalker themed palace. It was really… interesting.
By now, fifth grade had ended, and my friend and I were doing less and less Minecraft calls, and I started to get a little bored of Wings of Fire. Not for long though. My friend, soon to be best friend, and I were eating lunch one time and we were talking about books that we liked. I casually stated that I “liked” Wings of Fire, and she nodded enthusiastically and said she was obsessed with it. That started the worst part of this era, that ended almost as quickly as it started: Writing really long fan-fictions.
I’m not gonna talk about this part as much, but I re-read some of them a few months ago, and WOW. I really loved Wings of Fire. I had every single book in the series. And I still have Darkstalker sitting on my shelf, so I can look back on the whole thing and be nostalgic. Or just laugh at myself. Because what the heck.
To put it shortly, Wings of Fire was a really good book series and you should definitely read it if you haven’t already. That is all.
