Review by an Anonymous Teen - An Ode to Minecraft
Minecraft is the first video game I ever played, and from the very first moment I played it in first grade I was instantly mesmerized. I had wanted it for a while, the hype was crazy. But as soon as I saw the Minecraft world no other game had a chance. There’s so much to do! You can build, you can try to survive, and if you ever get bored you can always just explore the infinitely expanding world. I loved playing in creative, and I would play Minecraft on my SMP for hours on calls with my friends. My friend even had a birthday in my world. I would play bedwars on Hypixel when I was sick, even though I wasn’t very good at PVP and would mostly just build bridges for my team. I went to Minecraft camps and built Minecraft mods, and I added them to Minecraft on my computer. I even wrote a three-book Minecraft series. (Each book was like 20 pages, but still.)
Minecraft was my favorite game, and I also loved reading, so of course I wanted to combine the two. I asked my parents for Minecraft books, and I tore through them at a rapid pace. My favorite series was the escape from the overworld series. Reading those Minecraft books was my favorite thing to do besides playing Minecraft. I loved Minecraft, and I loved these books, but eventually I played it less and less until I wasn’t obsessed anymore. But I still feel like I owe so much to the game for making so many happy memories. And I owe so much to those books for encouraging me to read.
